Usually having traits of a potential President would be good... Not in this case

Women-Hating Right and Left by Andrea Dworkin should have instead been titled why all women should hate men. This article was Dworkin way of discrediting men and making it seem like they are the worst people. A lot if the issues that she brought up were out of our(men) control. Like pornography, Dworkin believes that pornography is our fault. She says this because she believes that it was only created to show male dominance over women. She even goes as far as saying, “..the very nature of her being is that she gets sexual pleasure out of being punished.” Since when was pornography about the punishment of women? Without the consent of the two or more involved it would make the act rape. By her saying this I feel like its a slap in the face to women who have actually been raped. If they could have instead participated in a porno film rather than being raped I'm sure they would of. Porno is voluntary. Rape is not.

That is why I decided to use him and the televised debates as my artifact. Donald Trump is a heavily opinionated person as well as Ms. Andrea. Opinions are cool and all but when your trying to influence a substantial group of people you need to have some substance to what you are trying to say. I see Donald Trump do this all the time. Like when he says he's going to build a wall at the border. Other than the fact that I think its a huge waste of money, how does he plan on funding this?

Well, he believes Mexico is going to pay for it, which is highly doubtful. Rather than exiling them why not work with them to find a common ground? I feel that same way about this reading. Rather than telling women how inferior they are to men and how we are such bad people, why not instead come up with a solution. Her anger is being used in a ineffective way. If Dworkin would have instead channeled this piece on how to cope with male dominance rather than saying things like,”the problem—the violence— was effectively hidden by male supremacy. I believe it would have been more effective to her readers.
Is male supremacy a problem in todays society? Yes. Is the over population of Mexicans in the United States becoming a problem for todays society? Well, depending on who you ask the answer to that question might also be yes. These are two big issues that face Americans today but do we want people like Donald Trump and Andrea Dworking battling these issue with the view points they have on the topic? My answer is definitely not.
Lets look how Donald Trump views Mexicans. He labels them all, not even just immigrants, as killers, thieves and rapist. I don't know how many Mexicans you know, but I know quite a few and they are far from it. Its not fair to let the actions of few affect the entire group. There are many Mexicans out their who are just trying to make a honest living and support their families. However, then you have people like Donald Trump who makes that extremely difficult with his views and how he classifies everyone. In regards to Dworkin I fell as if she does the same. She constantly refers to male power. As if all males assert their dominance over women all the times. Do some males feel the need to do that? Yes. However, is it fair to classify all males in this category. Absolutely not.

As males we also see this group classification when it comes to rape. The amount of sick individuals out their who think rape is okay is minuscule  to the amount of men who are completely against it. As a male I think thats obvious but sadly their are individuals out there who believe that this is the doing of all men, which isn't right. Dworkin didn't go as far as saying all males are rapist, but she did make is clear that the male race as a whole is bad.

Image result for donald trump parody Earlier on in her piece she states, “Its very hard not to collaborate with male power because male power is ubiquitous. It is everywhere.” This statement is so un-relatable for me. No matter what it is if their is something that has more power than I do I, I want to be on their side rather than exiling my self from that group. You should work together in order to find some common ground. I kind of touched on this earlier on in this piece referring to Trump and the Mexican situation. Rather than exiling them, to make our country great again, why not set up programs to work with them. By doing this you can see their side and from there come up with a solution to better help everyone affected by this.

Dworkin keeps talking about how males are superior to females. Instead of disassociating  yourself with them why not instead work with them! Ms. Andrea wants them to refuse its happening, “Part of what we have to do in this resistance Im talking about is to refuse to collaborate with male power. Refuse to be used by it. Refuse to be its chicks up front. Refuse to collaborate with it to make our lives a bit easier” This issue will stay stagnate and little will be done if all women do as Dworkin suggest. Talk about Male power. Talk about how its degrading to women. Talk about how it makes them feel. The thing is, women cant just talk about this to the same sex or close friends. They need to discuss this with males as well so they can see how its affecting them so they can make adjustments, rather than being left in the dark about the situation.

Nice Try Andrea Dworkin but I
think you need to go....

  1. Marcus, i like your post, I think you did a good job comparing Dworkin's and Trump's "radical" ideas. They both stereotype or classify the groups they talk about in an almost un-relatable way because they are so extreme. What's surprising to me is that Dworkin's article was written in 1992, and her radical views is what likely made it so popular. And Trump is in a much different time period, yet his radical views on other types of people still helps him gather widespread support today.
